Student Success Workshops

The Center for Academic Success (CAS) hosts an in-person success workshop series designed to help students make the most of their college experience at LU. Each session offers insight into student success and skills that students can take beyond the classroom. These workshops provide tools and strategies for students to improve their productivity, manage stress in challenging situations, enhance organizational skills, and more!

August

8/20 - Planning for a Successful Fall Semester - Big Sandy 141

Learn to set clear academic goals and develop effective time-management strategies. See how you can learn practical techniques for organizing coursework, balancing responsibilities, and staying motivated throughout the semester. 

 

8/27 - Developing Self-Discipline - Sabine 123

Learn self-accountability strategies such as the PACT goal-setting method and self-reflection to keep yourself on track to achieve your goals.

9/03 - Let's Try Something Different: Attacking the Textbook and Taking Notes- Cypress 125/127

Learn how to effectively read and understand your textbook by identifying key concepts, organizing information, and using active reading strategies. See how you can take meaningful notes based on your readings and apply them to your schoolwork.

 

9/10 - Pomodoro Power: Boost Your Focus and Productivity in 25-Minute Bursts- Cypress 125/127

The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method that uses focused 25-minute work sessions followed by short breaks to enhance concentration and reduce burnout. Learn how to apply this strategy to your daily tasks and build sustainable productivity habits.

Understand the root causes of procrastination and how it impacts academic performance and well-being. Participants will learn how to overcome avoidance and take meaningful action toward their academic goals through practical strategies such as goal-setting, time management, and mindset shifts. 

 

10/15  - Can Everyone See My Message? Group Work Strategies That Actually Work - Cypress 125/127

Group projects are not about doing everything yourself. They are about collaboration, accountability, and finding ways to contribute effectively as a team.

 

10/22 - Life After the Syllabus: Navigating the Transition from Student to Professional- Cypress 125/127

Graduating from college marks the beginning of a new chapter where success is defined by your own goals rather than grades and assignments. This workshop helps graduating seniors navigate the transition to the professional world and develop their professional identity. Students will explore common challenges new graduates face, including self-doubt, uncertainty, and adjusting to workplace expectations.

Understand the relevance of GPAs and learn how to set realistic goals to increase your own. Peruse online GPA calculators to understand how they work and how they can benefit students working toward academic recovery.

Leadership is not defined by a position. It is demonstrated through initiative, communication, and the ability to inspire and support others.

 

11/12 - Preparing for Final Exams- Cypress 125/127

Prepare to do your best on your final exams. Understand how to use test-taking, active recall, and study strategies to your advantage to combat test-taking anxiety and finish the semester strong.
