Before Experimentation with Generative AI Tools

  • Follow guidelines
Review Lamar's Guidelines for Using Generative AI Tools before you start.
  • Protect data
Confirm which (Public, Sensitive, Confidential, or Regulated.) Never enter Confidential or Regulated data into a public AI tool. Verify AI-generated content before you use or share it.
  • Verify accuracy
Research shows that all AI tools produce inaccurate and fabricated information at least 40% of the time, and often more. AI is not responsible for the content you publish. You are.
  • Respect copyright
Don't enter copyrighted material into AI, and confirm generated content doesn't infringe on someone else's rights before you publish it.

Ideas for Experimentation with Generative AI

  • Content creation
Draft stories, images, recipes, and other content from natural language prompts. Practice refining your prompts to get better results.
  • Code generation and debugging
Write, debug, and improve code, whether you're an experienced developer or new to programming. Check generated code for security issues and accuracy before you publish it.
  • Spreadsheet formulas
Build formulas from plain-language descriptions. Verify the output before you use it.
  • Advanced search
Search large datasets quickly. Watch for bias and outdated information in the results.
  • Document summarization
Summarize research and reports. Check summaries against the source for accuracy.
  • Synthesis and translation
Synthesize complex information and translate text. Review translations carefully, especially outside English.
  • Content review
Edit and improve writing. Use AI suggestions for clarity, errors, and readability.
  • Productivity
Summarize meeting notes, pull out key points, and draft action items.
  • Accessibility
Identify accessibility issues and get suggestions like alt text and audio descriptions. Test manually to confirm the fix works.

Whether you're reimagining your courses, improving operations, or figuring out how these tools fit your role, bring your questions, and we'll work through them together.
